U.S. Government
The U.S. Government class will be offered first semester for grades 9-12. It will provide .5 credit and will satisfy the U.S. Government core requirement for high school graduation. We will be using the Exploring Government text by Ray Notgrass. We will be touching on the history of the government - the Biblical basis, forms of government, and how the U.S. came to the point of the Constitution. These points will not, however, be the focus of our class and will really just be an introductory skimming. We will cover in more depth the U.S. Constitution and the issues facing the U.S. government for today's generations. If we have time, we will touch on state governments and how their role intermingles with the U.S. government.
U.S. Economics
The U.S. Economics class will be offered second semester for grades 9-12. It will provide .5 credit and will satisfy the Economics core requirement for high school graduation. Final decision has yet to be made on curriculum, but we will most likely be using Exploring Economics by Ray Notgrass. We will cover what we mean by the term economics, what makes up the economy, what factors effect the economy, and how the economy is part of our everyday lives.
American Law: An Overview
American Law: An Overview - will be a full-year offering. It will provide 1.0 hours of elective credit. It will be offered for students grades 9-12; however, I envision the demands of this class to be harder than my other two offerings. I do not anticipate the use of textbooks. We will be relying on lecture, articles, and legal cases for our learning tools. We will cover business law topics similar to: contracts, consumer protection, the laws of agency, and commercial paper/credit obligations. We will do an overview of criminal law and the differences between criminal and civil law. If time permits, we will touch base on some personal law topics such as property law and estate planning.
Keyboarding / Software Applications
Back in the day, we all had a typing class in high school. . . . .on a typewriter. . . . . .an electric one if we were lucky! Now, if our children don't know how to type and use Microsoft Office by the time they are in junior high, they are behind! In this class, we will start with the foundations of keyboarding and build from there! This is a full-year offering. First semester, we will work on typing by touch and do some beginning work in MS Word. In the second semester, we will move to some more advanced features of MS Word and learn the basics of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
** Laptops with MS Office (student version is fine) are required for this class. If this is an impossible hurdle for you, let's chat and see what we can do.
